As is known, machining by chip removal with rotating tools on lead-free brass requires special precautions in the construction of the tool itself, in order to allow modern transfer machines and machining centers to obtain state-of-the-art parts while keeping high productivity. Last week we saw the first of the 3 aspects, namely the HELIX SHAPE OF THE TOOL. Today we see the second of our tips that impact the workability of this material.
TOOLS SHOULD HAVE COOLANT HOLES.
Indeed, the cooling of the tool allows to keep low the temperature of the part, reducing thermal dilatation and ensuring uniformity of the cutting action over time, including the consistency of the diameter of the holes. Further, the coolant helps in evacuating the chips.
Thus, it is clear how a good coolant lubrication through holes in the tools is crucial to improve the productivity of the no-lead brass machining.
